Our History
The first church built in the city of Los Angeles was erected somewhere near what is now the corner of Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard (formerly Sunset Boulevard) and North Broadway Avenue. A chapel of approximately 1,400 square feet, begun in 1784, continued in use until December 8, 1822, when the church on its present site was dedicated in honor of Our Lady Queen of the Angels.
In the 1840s, the church was extensively remodeled. The history of the old church buildings aptly represents a changing landscape. This history reflects the same dynamism of the Gospel as the sole reason for their existence. The reason for the change and restoration of these buildings has not been simply for aesthetic reasons. Most importantly, these changes have been motivated by the needs of the people they serve.

Priests
Rev. Arturo Corral – Nevarez
I was born in Carreras, Durango. I am the son of José Corral and Ascensión Nevárez de Corral. My siblings are Hermelinda, Taurino, and Feliciano. My father immigrated to the United States in the 1940s and worked half the year in the Sacramento fields and the other half on his plots. My mother was a homemaker and secretary for Catholic Action for many years. I had the good fortune to celebrate my parents’ 73rd wedding anniversary.
Rev. Jose Stalin
Father José Stalin Vidal Peñaranda was ordained as a priest and joins La Placita Church (Our Lady Queen of Angels) as an Associate Pastor with 23 years of experience in the priesthood. Originally from Quito, Ecuador, he has joined our parish for a one-year term of service. He looks forward to collaborating with us to bring God’s message to the parishioners and to learning from our community.
